My Headunit on my 95 Explorer went dead. The CD changer still has power. 1.How do I tell if it's the Head or something else? 2.How do I get the rear passenger plastic off by the sub-woofer 3.If I do need a Headunit is there an adapter harness that will allow me to use the exsiting amps, speakers, AND the sub without running new harness from the back? I'm getting conficting info from Crutchfield,Circuit City,Scoche, etc. Any help would be appreciated!
Unfortunately I have an answer to only one of your questions. I assume you have the JBL stereo since you asked about removing the rear panel. There is no harness to use with your JBL amp and speakers. If you want to use an aftermarket deck your amp is useless and you have to by-pass it to use factory speakers. You're getting conflicting info because there is a harness for regular Explorer stereo, not the JBL and most of those guys from Circuit city don't know it. I looked into getting an aftermarket deck but called it quits after finding this out.
Your HU is only a keyboard. Everything...the amp, tuner,...or the "brain" of the system is in the rear quarter panel. So if the HU doesn't power up, then there's either a connection problem with the HU or the amp is dead. But check for the connection at the HU first.
