Hi i bought my truck used last year and it has duel exaust with bottles on it. My pipes are around 1 or 1.5 inches. That seems pretty scrawny to me. What do these bottles do? It has alittle sound to it when im downshifting and the rpms rise. Should i rip these out and put bigger pipes in?
What are bottles? Is that slang for something that I don't know? If your pipes are only 1"-1.5".... Yes, I would get my sawzall, walk outside, and start cutting....With the 302... 2.25" true duals, with some nice mufflers, tips would be a good place to start.
Bpottles are either Glasspacks or can't remember the name, there are some called sweet talkers, reverse flow i think? go to www.flopro.com they should have both designs. Oh! baffle Packs that was the other.
Ok bottles are usually referring to the baffle packs (flopro, sweettalkers etc.) Get rid of them, they only have 2 1.5" flow tubes in them, very restrictive. They usuall don't have the pipes comming straight in, they are at a slight angle, so if that is what you have, get a new system.
If you are from Canada and you call them bottles, they are alot different than the others out there. Where are you located in Canada? Just give a province. The myth used to be that if the smaller piping was used it would be louder, but now they have switched to larger pipe.
What size (length) are the bottles?
I had a '96 F-150 with 4 inch bottles with 2.5" pipe and the foot long "boom tubes". It was loud. Now they can put 3" pipe with these bottles.
If people are unsure what a bottle is, they are similar to what you call a glasspack or whatever flopro offers but they are alot shorter (about 4 inches in total length). If these are mounted on a 350 chevy, you can here him coming about 10 miles away. Very loud. Inside the bottle they spiral a bit and have small little ridges or nipples. Mounted on backwards they back rap when off the gas.
maybee mine are glasspacks then cause they are approximately 12" long and 2" wide. I think all my pipes are 1.5" though. Im not positive though i guess i would have to go out there and measure. The tail pipes are pretty tiny though, Am i losing power or am i ok? I live in Cold Lake, Alberta by the way tkondro. I have heard of glasspacks before but have never seen them. When i got my truck a buddy was in the cab with me and when i took my foot off of the gas he said "Do you have bottles on this" then he looked and said thats what they were but there not 4 " long.
I just found the all time best for noise makers, just did some phoning for new muffs for our 460 and found that Midas sell what are or used to be known as Blue Bottles, also Summit has some that Thrush used to make and sell under the name Turbo tubes, chambered mufflers, summit chambered mufflers is what they sell under.
