shift ***

I know i shouldnt worry about this right now since my bronco's in the shop awaiting a new computer, but i just gotta know. How in the heck do you get the stock shift *** off so i can put on a cool light-up one from pep boys. The reason im askin is cuz i have mood lights in all the footwells and they put a blue glow on all the passengers and me at night. I also have a blue foot air freshener and blue flame floor mats all around. I have a speaker box in the back with blue neon lights that flash with the bass. I think this blue light up shift *** would finish off my blue theme. I tried just unscrewing it like every other shifter ive ever seen.. but it doesnt budge. Ive seen other b2's with aftermarket shift ****. What am i missing?!?!?

It should just pull off. It will probably be on pretty tight. The shaft is knurled so that the **** grips tight when pushed on. Make sure the aftermarket shifter **** has a big enough opening to fit. I had to take my first one back because it had to small of an opening.

We are talking about a manual trans correct? If so then yes just pull it is pressed on. The shaft will not thread very easy, I would recommend a **** that uses set screws to hold it on. If you want to do the work it could be turned down and threaded.

I would drill out the shift **** before I threaded my stick... thats just me, incase I ended up needing to go back to the origional ****.

And yes, it does just pull off, happened to me in traffic the second day I owned my b2... the previouse owner for some reason had it barely on there...

Thats crazy it just pulls off. ive tried twisting both directions cuz i though it might be a left hand thread after it didnt budge going the other way. Ive never got that thing to move at all. Well like a said in the original post.. the bronx is in the shop still. Theyre gonna put a new computer in it tomorrow and hopefully itll run again. Then i'll do the *** if i can get it off. Do you hafta heat it with a torch or anything? Do you need to get some wood and a mallet and whack it off? Or does it really just pull up easily and im too dumb to have tried that? Well just let me know and i'll let you guys know how the whole computer thing works out.

9 out of 10 will pull off in your hand (usually when shifting) but some will get stubborn. They are pressed on with epoxy and it will stick sometimes real good. If you are sure you do not want it again then put a big pair of water pump pliers on it and twist back and forth. This will break the epoxy and strip the inside of the ****.

Well i did it. I took a strap wrench and twisted it a bit to bust the glue's bond. Then i took water pumps and put them on the bottom part of the ***.. whacked em with a mallet and off it came. The new *** is awesome guys.. thanx for the help.

Consider yourself lucky in a way. Most that I have seen pop off in your hand driving down the road. But of course when you wanted it off thats when it will stick real good. Good luck

If you slide the outer, concertina, rubber boot down past a constriction you can insert a wrench just below the shift **** to lever it off.
