I have a question about a stereo installation. a couple days ago I bought my dads leased 2001 F-150XLT supercab from the dealer instead of letting him turn it back in. LOVED the truck. What im wanting to do is install a new stereo deck along with speakers and an amp. I am very familiar with installations, I done a complete system on my previous truck. But here's my question.. The F-150 has the Securi-Lock Anti Theft system in it. My dad is a mechanic and told my I might want to consider seeing if me removing the stereo, and replacing it with an aftermarket system would cause the Anti-Theft system to think the truck is being stolen and shutdown the truck and not allow it to start. Do any of you have any experiance with this subject? Im not going to replace anything until I know how the theft system will react to this. Any help would be great. thanks
Thats the first time I've heard of that. I did an install last year on a 2000 F150 with the Anti-Theft and had no problems. I don't think Ford has done things like that since the idiot idea of incorporating the radio and climate controls into the same unit in the Taurus. $80 for the dash kit if you wanted an aftermarket head unit. Stupid.....
I really don't think the Anti-Theft is going to react to the radio. I'm pretty sure the Anti-Theft is only related to the ignition. Anyone else know about this?
As far as I knoe there id no problem changeing the stereo out. My 02 has the same security and I have had the stereo out a couple times. The easiest way to find out is to call a local installer and ask them. Ant reputable installer can give you an answer. Or you might even call Crutchfield and talk to the advisers.
