I have the latest flash on an 03. What do you mean by pulsating? Mine changes pitch when I drive through the normal course of moving the accelerator.

Do you mean the flutter when quickly chopping the throttle when under hard acceleration ???

I hear that in my latest flashed 03 Ex, but that's just a LOT of boost with nowhere to go "huffing".....

These turbos seem to talk allot, with very minor movement of the accelerator.
More when towing

Yes, I mean "flutter." I guess this is just the way the 6.0L is. I have a 7.3L Excursion and used to have a 7.3 F-250 and I never noticed any flutter. Of course the turbo did not screech nearly as much. I'm going to keep driving it and see what happens. I mainly get the flutter when the engine is not warm, but it comes and goes as it pleases. Thanks for your help. When I put the Banks 6 gun on it one day, it may take care of the problem.

Like you normally type!

The turbo on an 04 is different than on 03. I am assuming you have an 03 from your earlier post. Yes the turbo whistles and sings since it takes a lot of parameters into condideration doing it's job. Temperature, barometric pressure are just a couple. So it will sound different under different conditions. If you are accelerating aggressively and back off the pedal it will make a fluttering noise. Just excess air pressure. Not to worry.

Thanks! Good information to be armed with. My truck goes in on Friday - it was the first available app't after the Holiday wknd. New dealer this time - one that sells a lot of trucks.

On a sad note, the problems seem to be getting worse. Now it sounds like I have an injector failing as well. Something is robbing power and the way it cuts in and out makes me think injector. I suppose it could be turbo related though. We'll see.

I agree with you guys about the singing turbo. This ones seems to have more to say than the old Mack I used to drive.

Mine was doing the P02263 code every few days like yours. They replaced the EBP sensor and it never appeared again. Dunno if this is your problem, but my engine was surging on cold starts and kicking off that code. Once the sensor was changed, code went away as well as the surges. This is on a 05/03 truck.

Interesting comment about the surging on cold start. Mine has been coming up to an inconsistent high idle on cold start for the past month. Started about two weeks prior to the light. Dealer says it's just a normal warm-up idle, but I never bought it because of the inconsistency and the fact it never did it in December when the weather was a good bit colder.

Thanks for another great data-point! If we keep connecting the dots, maybe my truck will get fixed...

Wink

Got my truck back today. It spent the weekend in the shop. Dealer replaced the EBP valve and so far everything seems great! Don't want to speak too soon, but it hasn't run this well in a month! I'll give it a good road test tomorrow and see what happens.

From what you write and what adjordje writes, this could be behind us and we have learned something.
Now we just need to remember which thread it is in….

Talking

The truck ran fine today. I guess that little EBP valve was causing all the symptoms: Inconsistent/high idle on cold start, the check engine light, loss of power (made it act like a compression brake), and maybe even the in-cab exhaust smell I had. No odor at all today!
Thanks to all of you who gave advice. It was good to have some background when talking with the shop. Also good to find a dealer who would listen and work to resolve the problem. Drew Ford in La Mesa, CA.

I'm happy again! So is my wife now that I've stopped fussing about my truck...
