I finally decided to locate the source of an oil leak on top of my engine (1995 PSD) this morning and after some initial cleaning and then running the engine I located it. To the rear of the fuel filter housing there is a device that I believe must be the HPOP. It has steel tubing running from it to the rear of each head. Oil is dripping from the area of the big banjo bolt where the lines come off of the (pump?). 1st question: Is this the HPOP? 2nd question: What typically causes a leak here? Lastly, how hard is it to fix?
that is the fuel pump
You have to take off the turbo to fix it
I will probably be doing the same for first time this week
Have a diesel leak, can't find source.
By the way, diesel leak from there picks up dirt so looks llike oil but isn't
Smell whats dripping and you'll see what i mean
Unless you have an oil leak too thats mixing with the diesel
Mine is oil for sure. Touched it, smelled it etc. It's oil. I couldn't get it to leak at 1st so I revved the engine a little and there it came. A pretty steady drip right off the bottom near where the lines connect.Wish I knew how the thing worked so I would have a little better idea of where to look for the actual leak. Let me know how you come out on yours. Maybe I'll be able to learn something from your experience...
If it were leaking where it mounts to the engine, I don't see how it would be dripping off of the big bolt which is several inches above the mounting surface. It's just so dang hard to see down in there.. Guess I'll just have to tear into it. Thanks for your help..
