Manual Steering Question

I have only owned power steering vehicles and now I have a beater that is not, I was told today that there is a reservoir that you are suppose to put steering fluid in!! Am I being taken for a sucker or is there one, I looked under the hood (non mechanic) and could not see a reservoir attached to the steering column to be filled. By the way it is a 1982 F-150 4x2. Any help would be appriated thanks.

Now, before we laugh too long, the old manual boxes DID have oil in them. And you can fill them up via a little plug on the top. Course, most of them leak now, so the oil will just run out. If you have a leaky one, just fill it with grease as best you can, or start considering a new one. But, indeed, no reservoir, far as I can tell.
