power steering reservoir replacement

Well I broke the plastic tip of the reservoir that connects to the rubber hose. So now I have no way of reconnecting the hose.

Is there anyway to just remove the reservoir instead of taking the whole pump off and having to remove the pulleys and the mounting bolts?

I have already disconnected both of the lines to the reservoir, but I don't want to touch it without knowing what I'm up against.

1988 ford f150.

I did the same thing. I think the reservoir just slides off after you've disconnected the high pressure hose.

Here's what the reservoir looks like. Don't see any holes for fasteners.

Yes I heard it should just wiggle of, but it's hard to tell if it is all one piece or two separate pieces( psp,and psp reservoir)

To remove the reservoir disconnect the lines from the pump, then unscrew and remove the pressure regulator valve from the pump. The regulator valve is what the output line screws into. Once that is free, the reservoir slides off the back of the actual pump housing with some gentle prying.

The reservoir is a separate piece. It's hard to see because of how they're positioned. Might be easier if you get the new reservoir so you can see what it
looks like.

Note that whenever you remove the output line you need to replace the teflon seal on it before reassembly. These are available at any auto parts store in the HELP! section.

Okay so I have the lines disconnected. Does this large bolt on the reservoir need to come off
.

Large bolt parallel with oil filter.

Also I'm pretty new to the whole mechanic thing. From the picture am I clear to remove the pump
Or have I missed something?

That ain't a bolt... I told you in my previous post that that is the pressure regulating valve. It goes in against a spring... push it in til the threads make contact, then turn it in like normal.

One rubber o-ring goes around the pump to seal the reservoir. The other two I would have to see to tell but if all three are BIG o-rings then they are just different sizes to seal the housing up. Pick the one that fits best and use it.

Yes but the valve won't go in. /

The whole that it goes into is closed and I can't seem to get it open.It was going in at first but popping back out then it locked up and The bolt wouldn't go in at all.

Take it apart and have a look. Put the pump in a vice or press and press the back cover in slightly. Take off the snap ring that you see holding it on, then slowly loosen the pressure on it and the back cover will come off under spring pressure. You can remove the guts and take a peek inside then. Be sure to watch what order things come out and the orientation of each part. It ain't a hard pump to work on, just pay attention and go slow. There is not much in there at all. Basic hydraulic pump.
