99 powerstroke electrical problem

I have a 99 power stroke that seems to have an electrical problem. When I do a battery draw test I get a 5.7 some amp draw... seems a little high. I have eliminated all aftermarket electronics and still have the draw. so I started pulling fuses. when I pulled the #6 fuse in the "underhood" bank my draw went away.Since that is the alternator fuse I replaced it but still I have the draw. Are there any other components or relays on that circuit that could be bad, or am I way off course in my diagnosis? HELP!!

You've obviously got an electrical problem that must be dealt with. You've got 2 choices: (1) take it to a dealer or auto-electric shop or (2) go to www.helminc.com/ and get an electrical schematic and do it your self.

99 powerstroke electrical problem

When my alternator was going bad it was doing the same thing, but it took much longer for them to go dead. There are two scenarios that could be the problem, and they are:

1.) Bad internal diodes inside the alternator, or other internal components.

2.) Bad or shorted wire between the alternator and the computer.

You will need to get a wiring diagram and trace the wires from the alternator. I am not sure exactly how the PSD's are wired. But I do know that there is no regulator, the computer regulated the current.

I assume your alternator is charging when the engine is running
I have seen those alternators cause a current draw because of a regulator failure but its not real common. Have you load tested your batteries?A bad cell in 1 battery can draw a system down. Also I have never seen a computer in a Ford truck that regulated Alternator output
