I am runing 4.22 gears in mine and it smokes them pretty good!!! With street tires I have not yet been able to get it to hook up in any gear. I am running a 2600 stall and strong built C-6, but like 71 one said glad to hear another Fe guy running a comp cam!!
But as I saying 4.11 would be a good all around gear I think jusat put taller tires to drive on and smaller tires at the Drag strip!!

all i do now with the 26'' high tires is a one heck of a burn out !! i wanna go with a 29 or 30 '' rear tire. i would recommend 4.11 or 3.73 but it all really depends on how your motors built. what brand is your C-6 polcat? i'm running a hopped up TCI.

It is a Just a ford c-6 that came out of a Galaxy 500, just has alot of after market clutches and a real good transmission builder to get it to shift HARD!! I run 28" slick when I race. I have 30 inch tall tires for the street. Same as the torque convertor took a stock on and sent to a place to have it converted into a stall. I build things a little old and a little new. I might have it runnig sooner, been taliking to some companys about METAL-Thread lock to fix my one head. just have to wait and see, hopefully they can fix it than I can get it running sooner!!!

that stinks about your head my buddy rebuilds trannies so thats how mine got built. i bought the TCI kit, drums planitaries, hi-po servo, and modified the valvebody. the only reason i bought my convertor was because i neededa anti-balooning plate because of my happy gas ! let me know how you make out on your head.

Polcat & led sled, this is for the both of you, since you're both running the same or similar cam as mine. When you're just driving around, not racing, how much can you tell that the stall converter is there? I'm still trying to diagnose mine, and can't tell whether the problem is the converter or the gears that I know I need to change. In any case, seems like it's slipping way too much, at most any rpm range.

You guys should check with Sean(Ratsmoker) he's running that HiPo 390/C6

With 2500 stall ,, (I Think) with 3.70s in the rear with a mini spool..

I think he's going thru the traps right at 6000 rpm.. thats about right for his motor

Set-up...but i do know he bought some stickies..for the back to get his 60' times down...

He has alot of time behind the wheel of his truck with are kinds of set-ups!

when i'm just cruisin aroung 30 mph i can feel the stall slippin, but around 40 its got the rpm's it needs not to slip. i has that problem when i had the 3.50 gears in there with the 2500 stall, it was always slippin ! in the eigth mile when i go through the gate i'm at 5800rpm's. but as i said earlier you should gear your truck for how your going to use it and how the engines built.

From what I can tell, my motor's built pretty close to yours and Polcat's. All the specs are in my sig. Other than NOS, the main ingredients are real close. Cam, heads, comp., etc. Feels like my converter is slipping all the time, but it may just be not enough gear for that cam. I just want it to feel like it's "hooked up" all the time, no slipping, be fully streetable, and still run like a hot rod! I like the cam a lot, just probably don't quite have everything matched up to it well enough yet.

you are running the 292 comp cam, and you haver 3.23 gears. my memory serves me right that cam doesn't start to build power until 2200 rpm. i would deffinatly go with a taller gear. 3.73 or 4.11 would be a good chose. also the taller gear with get the stall out of its slipping and into its powerband. i had the same problem you are havin when i ran 3.50 gears.

Same here 71 you need taller gears. Like I was saying earlier install some 4.11 gears and 30 to 31 inch tall tires on the rear this will give you pretty good drivability, but when you race on the track run 28 or 29 inch tall tires and you will be around 5500 to 6000 when you go through the traps. I do alot work on transmission at work, just their not auto motive ,but they all work the same. Running a 2500 stall with to small of gear will create alot of heat and seem tha your trans is slipping all the time, because your not out of the stall range yet when oyur crusing. with that cam and that stall you need to be at least 500 rpm over the stall range when your at cruising speed so if your going 55 mph your need and rpm range around 3000 plus for it to work correctly. hope this helps

Thanks guys! Those are both real good explanations. Makes a ton of sense, too. I've had some of those same suspicions, but not being quite sure, I guess I just needed someone to tell me. Looks like gears are definitely in order for me.
