Russ, I was loking at a similar 17" wheel setup and some Nitto Sport SUV tires. I'll see if I can find the information. These tires were reasonably low profile, but wide.
They may have been another brand, but I think it was Nitto. They also had a decent load rating.
Hey led sled, I am rinning the comp 292 cam and it works great, I have C8AE-H heads on mind and according to the Desktop Dyno it was buildnig over 400hp. Mine is bored .040 and have around 10.5 to compression. Good luck on your build let us know how that cam works, I am considering going to a split cam myself.
thanks !!!! i was goin to get the 292 comp. i ran the comp 280 in my last motor, it was a nice cam. hows your's sound idling? i'd bet it has a nice idle
VERY VERY RADICAL!! I have some people say it sounds like a prostock!!, I plan on doing the same I want to install nitrous later. It is apart right know, I ported through a water jackert on the exhaust side so I am have another set of heads that i am upgrading to 2.09 intake and 1.65 exhaust, should run even stronger!!
i did the same thing, thats why i have edelbrock heads now !!!! the comp xtreme is a bit bigger then the magnum 296 dur and 588 lift. now i can't wait to hear it run !!!! i'm going to have some fun this summer a the track !!
I looked the specs on that cam and they are real good, The intake is less than the 292 but more on the exhaust side which is what thes engines need. copm makes a specialty cam which is 244/246 @.050 and .569/.598. I would look at this cam to the part number is 33-317-4 it is a hydraulic cam also. just be real careful on your cam selection if you get to much valve over lap your engine won't perform right. Any more than about 80 degrees overlap on a 9.5 to 1 enigne is pushing it so look close at any specs on the cams. I believe you probably can go up to about 75 degrees overlap on a 9.5 to 1 engine
yeah, i didn't want to go overboard, soooo i called compcams. they recommended this one so i hope they are right ! there are to many cams to pick from. they said with what i'm running this one should fit the motor like a glove !
Led, you mentioned that Comp 292... that's what I'm running, along with Polcat. .060" over and Edel heads. About 10.6:1 comp. Runs and idles real good! Keep us posted on what that thing does. I'm really interested in that. Not many guys here running Comps on these FEs! I'm glad to see that picking up some so we can have something to compare to.
i will keep you updated. i have always ran comp cams in my fe's. my last 390 had a magnum 280 in it. i never ran a xtreme energy cam though. any tuning tips you would like to share ?
Mine's nowhere near like I want it yet. Still has the old 3.25 gears and open diff. That's gotta go! Right now it'll shred one tire but that's about it! I'm real curious to see how those 4.56s work for you. And what kind of RPMs you're turning on the highway. Is this a straight drag truck for you or do you intend on driving it around also?
i've had the 4.56 in it for 2 years now. yes i do drive it during the summer regularly. i don't really recommend 4.56 for highway use though !!!! it is around 4200 rpm at 60 !!! its more like my blvd cruiser . it smoked the heck out of them with the old motor, the one with the magnum 280 cam, if you watched rat smokers video thats a good idea of what mine did !!! don't really know what to expect with the new cam and happy juice, i'm assuming lots of smoke !
