How To:

Old Guy here, How do I do a "Nested Search"?
What I mean by that is I first search any Forum by "Theft" for example, then I search those results by "Prevention" which should give me any posts with Theft, Prevention and Theft Prevention. Sorry, not obvious to me, how. Thanks.

Searching the forum

I've struggled with forum searching as well. This site is a little different from other sites I've seen.
When you click Search, drop down to advanced search.
From there you have several filters. What I find most helpful for me is:
Once you hit advanced search,
1. Read the IMPORTANT: right at the top of the search box. The use of quotation marks is what I have seen different in other search engines.

2. Search by Keyword has a dropdown so you can search only the title of threads, or any post with the keyword in it.
Let's say you search the word "manifold". If it is set for search titles only, the search should only list threads with the word "manifold" in the title. If you have it set for search entire post, you will list every post with the word "manifold" anywhere in the post.

3. The other filter I tend to use a lot is search in forum(s). I have recently obtained a super duty with a v-10 so I tend to do a lot of searching in the Performance, Engines & Troubleshooting forum Modular V10 (6.8L) sub forum. Another tip I have found useful is to not search by forum if you're not finding what you want. I'll use the example of "Front Cover". If I do an advanced search, titles only, in the modular V10 forum for "Front Cover" I come up with no matches found. If I do the same search but do not filter by forum, I get several hits. The nice thing is doing a search like this, on the far right column of the search results, it tells you what forum the hit was found in. Again using my front cover example, I would look at threads in the modular V8 since I know the engines are very similar and can ignore all hits listed in other non related forums. Alternatively, I could have done a search for "front cover" in the modular V8 form as well. Just different ways of skinning the same cat if you will.

I know this reply is a few months after your original post, but I hope it you see it and find it helpful. Play around in the advanced search with some of the other filter options I didn't go into detail about.

Good luck with your searches.
Dan.

Consider trying this, as it has served me well:

.... another way is to use any search engine but restrict the area of search to Ford-Trucks.com. The best way that this is accomplished was developed/documented by FTE member Fredric. For instance, if you need to search for “mass air conversion” for an 87 to 96 F series, then follow these steps.

Go to your OUTSIDE search engine OF CHOICE (like google) and type in the search bar:

mass+air+conversion+f150 site: (yes with a colon) then,

(Following is typed as to keep from being a HTML in this example)

Www dot ford dash trucks dot com slash forum slash forum28

(note, there must be space between 150 & site, but none on the rest)

This should yield you a page full of results of posts relating to mass air conversions in the 87-96 forum. (That’s what “forum28” is on Ford-Trucks)

The important part of your search is that “site:ford-trucks.com/forums”

But it should yield only results from FTE
