If true, I guess this proves Ford has finally acknowledged the 3V 5.4 can't compete with the Hemi?

Don't forget thet Dodge will be introducing a 6.1 liter Hemi shortly with a rumored 400+ HP. If Ford wants for this new Hurricane to compete, it better be pretty stout.

Flashback to the 60s back to the 2000s. Muscle truck wars. Do you believe it. There goes the fuel economy numbers. Dodge started it in the 60s there doing it again now. Yeh Bill Ford turned on FTE on his computer and seen the word hemi used more than the word trition. He said will fix that Hurricane. You gotta fight fire with fire. If ford wouldnt have been in a financial bind for the past few years we would be seein thyat motor now. I wonder what GM is going to do next.

Doesn't say much about the engine design. I bet it will be another SOHC design. A 6.2L motor will be nice though. Cubic inches mean a lot. Definitely good news!!!!

After thinking about this a little more, I hope they build this 6.2L, and I hope they ALSO offer the option of getting a diesel in the F150! How about dropping the 6.0L PSD in an F150. Now THAT would be sweet!

I agree with you 150ford, we are entering a new muscle era, and trucks are included this time. Competition between the brands can only lead to a better product for the consumer. Hopefully the technology will allow for big power and still get decent fuel mileage, but time will tell.

GM already has a motor to compete wit the Hemi, and this new Hurricane. It is the 400hp LS2 coming out in the Vette this fall. It isn't offered in the truck line, but if GM wanted to make an affordable muscle truck, it'd be a great choice.

Maybe the 3V "can't compete with the Hemi", but a 4V 5.4 could do more than compete with it. It seems to me that Ford is doing some forward thinking. They already have parts on the shelf to smack down the 5.7 Hemi with the 5.4. This seems like they are looking forward to matching or besting the new larger Hemi that is coming out. I think this is great news. I'd love to see a 4V with about 6.2-6.4 displacement.

Whar really confuses me is that there has been a 32 valve 5.4L in the Navigator for years, yet it is 'BIG' news when a 24 valver is put in the F150. Why didn't ford just put the Lincoln motor in??????

I agree about the big news part. The Navi motor was a detuned 32V 5.4. The 3V is a better engine overall. Broader torque curve with more peak torque as well. In addition it gets better mileage and makes less emissions. The thing I can't figure is why Ford went to all that trouble when they have the DOHC 5.4 Cobra R engine sitting around. A very conservative 385 hp/385 torque all at a 6500 redline. Even if they detuned it a little and put the redline at around 5800-6000, they could make 350 hp with probably even more than 385 torque. I think the 3V engine has quite a bit of untapped potential as well, I just don't understand they're process.

I'm confused here. They put all this effort into the new 3-valve 5.4 just to add another upgrade? What happens to the 5.4? Are they dropping that? Seems more like a rumor at this time. We'll see what happens though.

I don't think they are thinking about dropping the 5.4. It is just that there isn't much room for punching out the 5.4 to make it bigger. As Dodge and others are coming out with 6.1+ sized engines, Ford saw that they were going to have to do something to keep up. Comparing a 5.4 to a 6.1 Hemi wouldn't be fair. And comparing a 6.1 Hemi to a 6.8 V10 wouldn't be fair either. Ford needs that "one notch bigger" V8.
