Does anyone have the Ford Part No. of the oil pressure sending unit from the 80's that enables the oil pressure gauge on my '91 diesel to show actual pressure? There were several posts last month that the stock gauge/sender assembly is actually an "idiot gauge"; i.e. doesn't really give a linear reading of pressure, but jumps to a mid-range position only to show there is enough pressure to close a switch. Alanscott said he converted his successfully. Also: the resistor that I will have to cut to make this work - where is it located?
The part number for the sending unit:
Ford E1ZF10884AA
NAPA TS6628
The resistor is behind the gauge and is pretty obvious once you get the instrument cluster out. It's a 20 ohm if I remember right, you'll have to bypass it by soldering a wire in it's place. The new sender is alot taller than the original and will not fit under the "Power Stroke" plate on top of the engine. I figured I would relocate the sender but instead I have just left the plate off The first sender I used (from Ford) shorted out from vibration with in a week and then I replaced it with a NAPA unit and it has lasted over a year now, for what that's worth.
