I had a switch on my elec. fuel pump on my B2... I had it hid under the seat, all I had to do was reach under there and flip it and it killed the power to the fuel pump relay... it wouldn't go far like that.
I don't think I could kill somone for stealing my crap... even my good crap... but I carry a gun about everywhere I go in case someone gives me a worthwile reason though (ex. any threat to my family and I shoot first, deal with it later).
I can say that I had my debit card stolen one time and the guy drained my account, all kinds of stuff bounced, took a while but we finally got it all straightened out. Anyway, they caught him, and he pleaded with me through his court appointed defender to drop the charges and he would pay me back the money (the bank had already done that by then)... but I didn't, I let him sit there and go to jail... which is where I think his disfunctional **** should have been. What makes people think they can take stuff like that, that's not theirs? My uncle had his hunting coat stolen out of his truck in deer season once, takes a real smart individual to break into someones truck that you know is less that 100 yards away with a high powered rifle, people like that are so dumb it's scarry.
Yeah I would never kill someone over it but I would sure like to have a few minutes to "discuss" it with them. I do need to run some safe guards though. I like the fuel pump switch but mine is still a manual pump. Will definitely run a hidden switch for the coil connection and throw on a hood lock for now. Thanks for all your support and ideas.
Hi,
I deal with stuff like this all of the time, in fact about two years ago someone broke into my Cadillac trunk, doing a lot of damage anf stelaing my tools. I was working on the boat that day, and planning to return the following day. $3,500.00 later and I learned.
What you can do is obtain a fusable link type of fuse and attach it between your ignition switch and a hidden kill switch. Should someone unauthorized drives you truck, the fuse should blow killing the ignition system.
If anything dastardly occur you should be able to find you truck down the street.
A hidden kill switch is a good idea but they can still steal parts or just tow it away. A alarm that makes alot of noise would be good, the second they touch it the alarm goes off and you might be able to catch them atleast it would scare them off. I installed a hidden kill switch in my bronco cause when the tops off anybody can just hop in. Luckly know one has ever messed with it.
For vehicles with mechanical fuel pumps, you can get a fuel shut-off valve like they use in race cars, or even a dual-tank valve and adapt it, mount it under your seat out of sight. Even if they defeat your ign/battery shut-off, they will only get far enough for the gas in the carb to get used up, and then they should panic and split. (hopefully without having run the vehicle into anything) But I agree, the best solution is one that keeps them from even getting that far, like a good alarm system, preferably two of them so that if they are smart enough to defeat one of them they think they have it made when the second one kicks in.
In Texas, PC 9.41 covers protection of property, 9.42 covers the use of 'Deadly Force' which is force that is known to cause serious bodily injury, to protect property, part 2-[A] "to prevent the other's imminent commision of arson, burglary, aggravated robbery, theft [I]during the nighttime, or criminal mischief during the nighttime; or [B] to prevent the other who is fleeing immediately after doing the above from escaping with the property; AND you resonably believe that the property cannot be protected or recovered by any other means OR the use of force other than deadly force to protect or recover the property would expose you or someone else to a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury. This is taken from the Texas concealed handgun law book that every CHL applicant receives from the state. I skipped over some parts of it but you must read it and know it before you use deadly force. Even though the law book says you can use deadly force, if you do, you will be facing the DA and the Grand Jury and they will decide whether your actions were justifiable. Yes, I'd like to just line up the thieves and shoot them but we are supposed to be more civilized than that. Yes, I'm packing, 24-7.
Theives Suck! Growing up, I was told if it wasn't yours, don't touch it. Or if you can't afford it, you don't need it. I've been lucky so far that I never had any of my vehicles stolen or broken into. (Knock on wood). I have a kill switch on my '90 Mustang that I installed. It interupts the coil, and even if you have the key, all it will do is crank and not turn over. I tried to do that the first day I picked up my '03 Supercrew, but I couldn't find a coil or plug wires anywhere on the block. Anybody ever post a step by step installation on a late model pickup that shows how to install or where to find the coil?
I hate thieves too. I've had a bicycle stolen when I was a kid, and ALL my tools out of my garage a few years ago. There was even an attempt on my 92 5.0. All that got me was a broken window and a dead battery.
I got a story about a thief though. A friend of mine was walking out to his car, and notices a dude in his neighbour's car. So he walks up to him, and asks "Is that stereo yours?" "No" says the thief. "Can I have it then?" asks my friend. "No," says the thief, "I owe this one to someone."
Can you imagine the cajones on this guy? In BROAD DAYLIGHT WITH A WITNESS!!! AND, he did get caught because a cop just happened to drive by at that moment, and my buddy flagged him down.
(ex. any threat to my family and I shoot first, deal with it later).
Spoken like a true Texan.
I'd say put a good alarm on it and have it set to the highest possible sensitivity setting. Keep a loaded gun by your bed. When you hear the alarm go outside and if you see anyone tell them they get one warning shot, the other is going directly at them. If you dont catch anyone call the police to finger print it. If they won't, go get some ashes and some clear tape and do it yourself. Then take it to them and tell them to keep it on file, so they can match it to a dead body they may find later.
