Dated 1st wife for five years, were married for 21, she liked my Army buddies more than I did. Kids are grown and on thier own.

2nd wife, dated 18 months, everything seemed peachy until one night she beat the hell out of me. I wanted to smack her back but I was raised better than that. Was married two years.

3rd wife, dated six months had a lot in common, things were great for three years, then went to hell in an hand basket. I was paying all the bills and she was working in Alaska. She left her punk highschool kid with me, he started smoking dope and I said thats it. You know what they say 40 men to 1 woman in Alaska. She came home with herpes, then went to S.Carolina to her ex-husband. She still will not sign the divorce papers because of my health coverage. I moved while she was gone to S Carolina. She had a hysterectomy in Oct before moving to Alaska!!!!!!!

I do thank God she did not infect me! Profanity removed by FTE

2nd, 3rd also had step kids involved and thats just a no-go from the start.

Current status, living with a lady I have known since Labor day 1998 and we are doing great!!!

I met my Fiance 8 years ago through her sister. We dated for two years, but needed to take different directions for a while. We were at different stages of our lives at that time. We split apart for four years and did our own thing. About 2 years ago (Ironically and THANKFULLY we were both single) she contacted me out of the blue. (We didn't keep in touch those four years ago). We took things very slow and built back a strong, solid, wonderful, loving relationship. A little over a year later we were engaged last year... and we're getting married in 5 weeks!

Here's our latest pic from her graduation from Rutgers University a week ago:

I am looking forward to the road ahead of us

Met my wife when I was 13. They were summer vacationers and her brother was older and had a car. Naturely he was the driver for us younger locals to get around. Never actually talked to her till her parents bought the home next to my parents. We dated thru the summers while they were there and the winters we went our own way. Then in the summer of '73 we became engaged. Married in '74. That's 30 years this June. Two grown adult kids that I am very proud of. A wife that knows she is second only to my Mustang even thou she gets treated like a queen. It's been a great 30 years but if I had to do it all over again, I would have pursued another summer visitor. Her grandfather was chairman of Allstate and her father was VP. I screwed up but I'd never trade the girl I have.

Met my wife when I was 24 and she was 47. No that's not a typo. We lived together for a year and a half before we got married in 1988. We are soon to have our 16th anniversary. And it's been a happy 17 1/2 years with her, I'm glad I listened to my heart and not my friends.
My idea's as to a happy marrige
Do alot of this,
Don't do this,

Went out for 2.5 years, married at 27, and done by 32. Maybe I'll do it again if I can find the right one. It's gonna take alot before I do it again. Just can't seem to trust many people in this world anymore. Don't get me wrong, I would like to find that person to share life with, just takes time I guess...

Just remember to listen.

Dont spend to much time buried in your job!

Open and honest all the way.

Talk about things, it dont mater listen to her side or his.

Split the bills, end of story one person cannot carry the finances in most cases.

If you run into problems get a marriage counselor.

Dont smother the other person, find hobbies you both enjoy but dont go overboard.

She is going to want to decorate the rooms, let her and all but one of them, its your room, you pick the decor!!!

Take a vacation every year and go some place. plan it pay for it up front.

I never thought I would reply to such a "soap opera" thread like this and maybe it's because beer thirty was three hours ago, but the the secret of a long marriage depends on three things. Respect, Respect, Respect. But what the h*** do I know. I'm only going on our 48th anniversity...And they've been the greatest..

Is the wife doing anything she wouldn't be happy to come home and tell her husband? Is the husband willing to tell his wife what he's been up to? That's respect. Pure and simple...

I'm planning our 50th for an Alaska trip.

Cody..
I knew of another with the same problem as yours. There has to be some kind of feeling after 20 years. I think you scewed up. This instance played out that the husband said that nobody would come out alive. The result was that they were forced to talk it out, found out what was the problem and lived happly ever after..I'll bet that you two don't talk about the little stuff. You are the macho man and she is the subservant wife?? Twenty years, I think it's easier to fix it than to start over....JMHO...What the H*** do I know???
