I looked at Fords preview site for the new superduty and was hoping to see that the torqflyt trans would be available for the V10. What I saw was somesort of new 5sp. Can anyone explain the features of this trans. The new superduty looks really good. (Hate to say it, but I've been really thinking about a Dodge with the Cummins, but if I get a gaser the Ford V10 looks good)
I looked at the website again (www.fordvehicles.com) in the preview area for the new superduty. A transmission called the 5R110W is shown for the gas engines and the Torqshift for the diesel engine. From what I'm reading they don't sound like the same transmission. Both transmissions sound like they will be good in a tow vehicle.
It is the same tranny as the 6.0 Deisel. The only difference is that the Tranny for the V-10 has a lighter Torque Converter. That is why a different part number.

I've heard the Torqshift is basically a copy of the Allison/World 5 spd auto that GM has. If I remember GM bought Allison. If so it is a heck of a tranny, it's been (the Allison) in the medium duty trucks and big diesel motorhomes for awhile. It is an awesome unit. A lighter torque converter makes sense, it also has to be different for the power characteristics of the engine. A diesel converter has a much lower stall speed than you'd want on a gas engine.
i thought the part# for the diesel was 5r110w so that would mean they are the same, but when you read the publications it really seems like they are different trannies but use the same name
i remember a thread maybe a month or two ago about how the new engine was eating up the trans so maybe they are using a different trans than the diesel
