im havine a problem with starting my car, im getting power to my starter, sometimes it just sounds like an electrical clicking or it tries but fails to turn over. ive ruled out my battery, battery cables, cable ends ,and my starter (new). headlights dome lights, radio ,and everything else in the cab work. just has problems starting. am i screwed? or has this happened to someone before. i havent changed my cylenoid. its a 1986 ford fullsize 302 eddie buaer edition, any help will be appreciated. if anyone uses IRC (internet relay chat) i opened a chat channel on efnet called #Bronco if they want to chat about broncos
The only time that's happened to me is when the battery was dead. The relay clicks because there isn't enough power to keep it open... Did this problem suddenly occur?
I second ubermich's diagnosis...had the same problem...also changed the solenoid, but didn't help. Turned out my battery wasn't holding a charge. Popped a new one in there and worked great. So...try charging your battery or have it tested somewhere and replace as necessary. as a note: my problem also had sudden onset.
All I know is that was the problem with mine (twice, two different vehicles), and it only takes a few minutes to pull the battery and take it down to autozone to have checked. If it has no charge, they'll charge it for free, if it doesn't work still, you know for sure that's not the problem, if it works for a while then starts up again, you know your battery is biting the dust...
