pan, intake, water pump are installed. I'll probably fill it with oil and check for flow at the heads using the drill and pump primer.
Hope it will fire today.
But I need to spend a little time over at dad's. His dog, which used to be my dog, died last night. In less than a year we've lost my dad's Dad (grandpa), my mom (his wife) and now the dog :-( She was a real good dog as well. She was almost 12 years old. A little red headed Chow. When it rains, it poors.
Sorry to hear of your loss, we all wish you and your Dad well. 12 years is a pretty full life for a dog, isn't it?
Alright, oil pressure!! At this point I like to screw in a pressure gauge where the sender goes on the oil filter adaptor and see how much pressure she builds when spinning the oil pump. When I built the CJ she hit 100 lbs!
12 years seems almost fair for a dog. It's just the timing. I'm sure dad is feeling pretty lonely now.
I tried to help by recruiting him to help me get the truck into the shop :-) I bought one of these 60o0lb rolling stock 12v electric winches from Harbor freight. They were on sale for $40. It took a while to figure out how to operate it. The instructiosn aren't very clear. We finally got it pulling and it pulled the truck up my shop ramp (about an 18" over 12' grade).
now it feels like 94 deg F out there with the humidity. So, I'm having a cold beverage and a an Air conditioned break.
What a battle. the headers make it tough to install. I recruited a neighboor, and after about an hour, we finally got the engine and tranny to mate up. I've done this at least 3 times now, but it was still a pain in the ...well, in just about every part of my body :-)
The FT pan looks good and fits well. But it blocks the view of the flex plate when trying to find the TC bolts.
I have a very clean engine and a we just detailed the engine compartment, yet I still came out absolutely philthy.
I've got lots of plumbing and wiring to do. And I've got to figure out how to get the starter in. Its was hard enough to get the motor in with the headers attached to the exhaust. I may also have bent one of the exhaust pipes after the header(trying to lift and position the tranny), since my driver side header does not line up with the heads now :-(
Well, by now you're either at the FE Nats or you're angry and drinking in Austin. Sorry to hear about your rough year; hopefully things will change for you and your dad.
I probably won't do any wrenching today. Family duty calls. It may be wednesday before i get back to it.
I can't belie how much work is left. I asked my budy to detal the engine compartment, so he unhooked just about everything :-( Its a mess. It's a glossy clean black painted mess, but a mess none the less.
