I should have everything needed by Wed. to reassemble the FE446. I could assemble it now, but I want to use the Romac balancer and I want to degree the cam.
The Piston dead stop should be in tomorrow. Hopefully, I can figure out from there how to degree the cam. Any suggestions appreciated. I have a degree wheel.
Otherwise, just think warm thoughts. I know it sounds crazy, but I'm optimistic it will be running in the truck on Thursday and in Oklahoma by Friday :-)
While you're waiting, check out these sites for degreeing the bumpstick. If you don't understand something, see how the other sites explain it. They have different ways of saying the same thing. Good luck!
Looks like I need to fabricate a pointer and purchase a dial indicator.
What about break-in? The only new parts are the pushrods and the sleeve in number cylinder. I figure I'll put some moly-lube on the pushrod cups and ***** and maybe the dizzy gear. I'll put some general assembly lube every where else.
The pointer can be a coat hanger hanging on a bolt from timing cover hole or water pump bolt.
Break-in....I'd say give it 5-10 minutes and you should be okay. Change the oil before heading out for the trip. You don't want all that junk floatin' around in there while your driving.
I'll check Harbor Freight. maybe they have a dial indicator.
I should have just orderd the cam degree kit from Crane or the like.
I just hope I can get motivated to work on it. I'm finishing a long shift. This often results in a beer soaked evening and a slow start on Thrsday :-) Which, would ruin any chance of getting this thing together in time.
Not so good. Last night the sleep monster claimed me. After a long week at work, the sleep monster or the beer monster usually do get me :-) Of course, the beer monster is followed by the sleep monster...but that didn't hapopen last night.
This morning, I had to take my Dad's dog to the vet for siezures.
Now, I'm just having a hard time getting out to the shop.
My Dad has a dial indicator, so I've got most of what I need.
Maybe, I'll get moving here shortly...
Part of the problem is that I realized; If I actually get it running, I'd have to drive IH35 to Oklahoma on Memorial weekend in a recently rebuilt old truck....for those that don't know, IH35 through Texas is a busy highway.
Maybe I should just take my time, stay near home, eat some BBQ etc.

Instead of taking your chances on the interstate, you could always put her on a trailer and take it easy on here 'till you get there. Then let her rip!
Greg, with your luck, something's bound to break! I'd say for you, just getting the truck there would be quite an accomplishment. Heck, even if it broke at the track, at least some of these guys who have been keeping up with it for so long will finally get to see it. If you break it before you get there, you might just get so disgusted that you opt for the BBQ instead!
And as for Dad's truck and trailer... well, as long as it's a Ford truck it's ok. I sure would hate to know that the mighty FE446 had to ride hooked to the wrong end of a brand X truck, if you know what I mean! Yeah, I know, you're a brand X owner also. I keep trying to forget about that!!
Man, you gotta go. I don't know how many of the FTE brethren will be there, but I know they'll be mighty disappointed if you don't show up. Way too long of a haul for me, but you have to go. It's your duty! With having one of the most envied engines of the entire FTE, it's just something that you have to do.
I think you are done with your problems. Just get it assembled, give it 30 minutes or so of driving around your local area and you should be OK. You should still follow the typical break-in instructions since you have a new cylinder.
If She makes it for 30+ minutes without any issues, it is likely that there won't be any.
