I have a 2000 Explorer 5.0 that has given me an 'Engine Service' light a few times. Checking the OBD system showed an error code of P0401 "insufficient EGR flow" using my OBD tester. I have reset the code several times and, using a piece of wood, have tapped the EGR valve as well. Runs OK for a time and then repeats the P0401 error. Have not removed the EGR valve since that is a major pain, especially if that is not the problem. I have not noticed any difference in the way the engine runs; idles and runs OK.
