When I turn the key the inside lights go out and I don't hear my fuel pump running. If I jump the starter relay the engine cranks but won't start because no fuel pump activity. Changed alt, bat and starter relay HELP! Thanks
Sounds like a shorted battery or a bad connection to me. No wait you said when you turn key (natha) but you jump solenoid you have starter, so maybe bad ignition switch? Tough call this one is, need more info on what happens when you turn key to on position. Do you have power to fuel pump relay, coil, and computer?
Just out of curiosity, do you have one of those intergraded alarm systems in that van ? You know, the one's that cut off the ignition and fuel, lights, door locks, etc.etc.
I'm thinkin' maybe you need to check your cables for high resistance. They can get internal corrosion and not be able to allow enough amperage to do the job at hand. Sometimes you'd be surprised how bad it looks under that plastic insulation......best of luck.......mike
Maybe this guy figured out what the problem was.
I had a simular problem a while back. I thought it was the starter switch under the hood, but it turned out to be something screwy with the alarm system.
I haven't yet figured out whats wrong in the alarm system
since I can't get a schematic for it, but I solved the starting problem by taking the wires off the emergency bypass button and twisting them together.
The rest of the alarm system still works fine.
wshop2.......There is a device called an "actuator rod" that connects from where the key turns down the steering column to what is actually the ignition switch located at the bottom of the steering column. I can't remember exactly all the specifics but if the key being turned just doesn't "feel" right this could be the problem. The actuator "yoke"? that works the rod is made out of some lower grade metal and is easily broken. I do remember it is accessed after using a puller to get off the steering wheel.............best of luck......mike
