Hot Hub

Hey group.

The other day my son and I were out playing and after about 3 hours we headed back. Trail riding no crazy stuff. When we got back to civiliaztion, we stopped, put it into 2wd and unlocked the hubs. The hub on the drivers side was warm but not too warm. The hub on the passenger side was too hot to touch comfortably.

Whats the collective opinion? Bearings or something worse?

Thanks

the brake in that side might drag a little more than they otherside. i would recommend tearing down both hubs and spindle assemblies and regreasing everything, and cleaning it all out. if you have disc brakes they should self adjust to make everything perfect. make sure you torque everything to spec using the correct tool. IE a hammer and flathead screwdriver is not a hub socket.

I'd say you need a new wheel bearing or spindle bearing. I'd pull everything and clean it like idio said..

If it needs to be greased badly they can get warm. Although, if its dry enough to cause heat like that, you can be sure your bearings need replaced too.

Thanks guys.

I'm thinking worse case. The bearings were just repacked about 2 months/500 mi ago and the mech said the spindles would need replacing in the near future.

Thats gonna leave a bruise. :-(

It's more common for the calipers to seize up and not release the rotor, causing heat buildup. I just replaced the entire front brake system on my truck because that kept happening to me. If you end up going that route, I'd replace the bearings as well. They're cheap.

Why do the spindles need to be replaced?
