Chris-Wait til u get to be 30 like myself and still be single. It sure sucks. And the older you get, the pickier you get because you become so set in your ways/beliefs. Plus, the pickens become pretty slim too!

Gets depressing at times, but watching the cubs play baseball takes that away........well, maybe not.

Since I have been married for 44 years and probably have T-shirts older than you, I feel qualified to respond. I believe that one reason my marriage worked was that I sewed my wild oats before I married - the Army, Marines, college, motorcycles, cars. I believed then that girls were like underware and needed to be changed at least once weekly, this gave me a solid basis for comparison in addition to being alot of fun. Then one night I walked into a local watering hole and saw a tall blond laughing in a booth with some friends. We did not speak and I left shortly after, but she tracked me down through mutual friends and the rest is history. What I'm trying to say is - don't rush it, it will happen. Enjoy being single, being young and have fun. Marriage is a serious business and, sadly, is taken too lightly in these times. Take it from someone who knows - it's great when you get it right the first time.

OK, time for the know-it-all. My wife & I are married 10 years. 1st for both; I was 40 & she just short of 37. She is my best friend and we finish each others sentences. She does wonder what I am doing on FTE. 2 kids. Things are going nice.

I had darn near give up when I met her. She had a couple of "unwinds" also. What we found is that we were from very similar backgrounds. Thus, no surprises, & our expectations & values etc pretty well matched up.

Just prior to this, I had very unromantically developed a "system" to help me stop wasting time. "Absolute permanent disqualifiers", I called it. This was to help prevent going out with someone for a year trying to figure out if we could "fix" our relationship. "Love conquers all" is in books and the movies.

You smoke, she don't: Goodbye. You want to listen to "Stop smoking" messages the rest of you life?

She smokes, you don't: You gonna nag her and kiss the ashtray all your life?

Religion: Some don't combine well. Disappear when the incompatibles come up.

Politics: Mary Matelin (sp) and James Carville make money on their disagreements, think you can do the same?

Children: Can you imagine not wanting kids and finding out the little bundle of joy is on the way? Or wanting and being told no?

Money: If someone says "Those credit card interest rates are eating me alive", you may consider bolting into a dead run.

And a host of others.

You can grow to love someone you like and like to be with much easier than you can learn to like someone that you are mad about but who drives you nuts. Or something like that.

My late great uncle told me once "Any damn fool can get married. It takes a good man to stay single." I don't know what he was talking about either, but if you look at the divorce stats, it seems to be true.

Good luck, relax, be yourself, and don't look at a girl like a truck. You can replace a blown motor in a truck with good bodywork. You can even change the size or brand of the motor. That girl is a sealed unit, as is, where is.

I'm there with you too man. 20 and never had a gf. I got along with everybody and still do. I just cant ssem to get up the guts to talk to girls. I make excuses, which i believe are good. I only get $200 allowance and most of that is gone paying fo rmy phone, cable and gas. I dont drive a nice vehicle. I live in an apartment, not a nice house. I dont really have anything to impress a girl and I cant give her much. Most of the girls here in Lubbock, Texas Tech University, seem to wear nice clothes and drive nice cars. But I am slowly deciding what I currently have is what I have to offer. I am looking for a job to help change that. But I know there is someone out there for me, I just have to get up off the couch and look for her. I am damn tired of being single myself. Marriage sounds good, love to have kids, but i know I will not do that any time soon. I just want somebody to talk to one the phone and to go over and see. There somebody out there for all of us, we just have to notice them when we see them. Well I fell better now.

Single life isn't all that great. I, too, miss having someone there. I've been single now for over four years. Only had one girlfriend. She turned out to be a cruel and manipulative person. Lasted two years. Took me almost the full two years to catch the fact that I paid for everything . . . I mean everything. No wonder I'm broke. It didn't help that she stalked me for five months after I dumped her. I actually moved to get away for a while.

If another girl somehow gets past my "wall and barb wire" she'll have to face a very cautious man. Anything sets off a red flag and I'm gone. I don't mind being alone, but there is only so much a person can tolerate. I'm afraid if I do end up with another woman she'll be crazy like the last one.

Moral of the story: Put your energy into your vehicles. They don't talk back. They're cheaper to "maintain". And they do what you want to do.

For the shy guy: I take you are in school, limited money etc? In that case, focus on getting out of school. Once you get the degree or cert or whatever you are working on, chances are you are going to move somewhere for a job??? Then, following the "Get a job, get a better job, repeat as necessary" model, you might move a bit? So what do you need female baggage for? Just stay friends, get the school thing over and when you have two nickles to rub together, you'll be more confident. And hey, be upfront about it. If all they care about is money at your age, it ain't gonna get better.

For 88Marquis: Right arm, right arm. Lots of females out there, no need to get one that needs a rebuild or who wants to tune you up. It is empowering to tell one to bugger off, you know. (Hey, it works both ways.....)

Good luck.

Your single? Sounds like the last couple marriages I've had. One I'm in now is great! Too soon to tell about the next.

Just recilently i was talking to a smart and beautiful girl. She was planing to go to the college i am currently going to, but was waiting to see if she would be accepted to Rodchester. Well about a week before she is going to get the Rodchester letter she decides to go to another college. I never saw it comming and it really tore me up. It still hurts every time I think about her. There are only two things that will help the hurt inside of me. One is work, when ever i walk through the door all my my personal thoughts and emotions stop. It is not something that i think about doing it just happens. As soon as i walk out the door my work emotions stop and my personal emotions start right back up. Another thing that has helped me is knowing that she is happy. That is all I have ever wanted, for her to be happy. This is about the only thing that will bring a smile to my face when i think about her.

Right now i'm not really looking for someone to marry, just a girlfriend.

If you can, give her a call. If she is someone you knew or there is someone that knows her that you know, ask her to talk to her or giver you her number.

I have her number and we have talked many times, but she is fixed on this other college. So there is no chance of taking her into going to lamar. To make it short and simple the relationship is over, and therre is nothing i can do to bring us back together.

I got married once at....25? Three years of hell. I had a cherry 65 Ranchero. She crashed it 3 times. I never would let her drive my 65 Mustang. I put a cut-off switch in the Mustang so it would not crank over.

Do not be in a hurry. I have only had a two year period where I was running into a brick wall (as far as meeting anyone).
