Its probable only the rear cables that are froze up. Disconect the e brake cable at the rear most connection. Should be about 2 feet in front of the drivers rear wheel. Check and make sure every thing foward of that loosen up
If so just replace the 2 rear cables.

If you know for sure you're not going to use those rear cables, I cut mine off just right where they go into the drum, then pulled the piece in the drum out easily. Otherwise, I think you have to crimp those metal flanges from inside the drum (a real PITA to get to without disassembling the drum components) and then unhook it from the actuating (parking brake) lever before you can pull them out. Also, check that the equalizer is working properly, not kinked such that it pulls one more than the other. That could lead to one cable not releasing fully and ruining one of your drums. Ask me how I know.....PO

I changed both my rear cables, only to find that the front one was seized as well, and ended up with a whole new system.

Good luck!

Yes you have to take the drum off. You can take the cables out w/o cutting them. It just takes 3 pliers, and 5 hands

I cut mine off, cause as Bordaine says, you need too many hands and there is no space in there without taking it all apart. Cut them off at the backing plate, take off the drum, and then unhook it from the actuating lever (you can probably pop it off with a screw driver). I saw a tool that supposedly helps to crimp the flange part in a Northern Auto parts catalog, but I'm too skinflint to buy such a thing.

Take the new cable, push it through the hole in the backing plate with a lot of excess cable, hook it on to the lever (a needle nose plier should work), then pop the flange part into the backing plate.

Attatch the drum part of the cable first, then the part that goes to the equalizer, as it is helpful to have the slack in the cable when playing in the drum.

Have fun!
