How do I track down why the cruise control is not working on my '96 Bronco? I am guessing something is loose somewhere or just dirty, considering other things I have found, but not sure where to start. Is there a dash light somewhere that says the main is on? The fuse in the box is good.
I have a '95 and when my cruise stopped, it was a simple brake pressure switch, which is located on top of the master cylinder. Just disconnect the plug and look at it. If there is brake fluid in it, you need to replace the switch. Around $25, 2 minute job. Cruise works fine now. From what I understand, the cruise control needs this switch to work, because that is what tells the cruise to stop when you step on the brakes.
Good info Kefhard. The switch on the master cylinder is a fail safe. The brake switch on the pedal is the primary switch used to disengage the cruse. The switch on the master cylinder is there incase the brake switch fails.
