Is a quick synopsys, the "stroker" comes from the use of a crank with a longer stroke. This means that the centerline of the crank to the centerline of the rod journal is increased.
Could I turn a 351W to a stroker with 400cid parts?
Guys, could I use a 400 crank to turn a 351W into a stroker; what else would be needed? i.e. rods, pistons? thank you. What advantages come from "stroking" the above engine? what about fuel economy, thanks....
No... The 351w and the 400m do not share the same crank journal size. I believe you would have to have the 400 crank turned down to fit the W block. Increasing the "stroke" will give increased lower end torque, and overall HP as well. If you purchase a stroker kit, you get everything you need but may also need to clearance the block to clear the extra throw in the reciprocating assembly. The good thing about the W stroker kits is that they are "relatively" cheap.
