Well today i was taking a drive to band practice with my singer when a a vw bug pulled out infront of a yukon at 40mph right infront of me and got hit then sent into me. Damnit i'm angry now they considering my truck totaled becuz it's gonna cost more to fix it then it's worth. boys i take ur opinions to heart so let me know what's up. It's only worth 2 grand but i have some duals for it allready and a new box, and lift. this summer it was gonna get all repainted and everything put on including zr, ing the frame, and lining the underside of the box. plus i allready have a liner. why me. well should i do some shopping for a new truck. I don't think i'm gonna have any more than 2,000. U think i can find another good truck. with a 5.8 auto. i could get a truck that has all these things done with it allready but where's the fun in that. Hey look at what someone else did to my truck. i wanna be able to say i did the work on my truck. I'm sure u guys understand.
First off Glad to hear that you are OK!! be thankful that someone elses mistake didn't end up hurting you and your passenger.
Now, can you tell us exactly what year your truck is, trim level, options, condition before the wreck, and the extent of the damage, then I'll bet that lots of folks will give their opinions.
well the front end was perfect and the box was just starting to get rusty above the wheel wells and i have a new box for that. the paint sucks. the rims and tires are nice and the interior is perfect. the extent of the damage. well lets see i need a hood spring, front left panel, grille gaurd(could possibly be heated and fixed) all new left light assembly and metal for underneath the assembly, bumper and driverside door. the panel was jammed back behind where the door hinges and wont allow me to open it.
Keep it. Those older trucks are getting hard to find in good shape and if you already have the new bed you might as well just fix it. Or sell it to me for cheap.
i've heard of people buying back the vehicle from the insurance co. for salvage you still get your pay off of $2k then you buy back the totaled truck for a couple hundred. i'm not sure of all the details but look into it so that you may have the option of keeping your rig. like i said, am not sure of the exact details but it's worth looking into.
well i'm keeping the truck, i told my mom and that was like telling castro to turn cuba to democracy. but i did it and now i'm searching for new panels. well i'm keeping it and they'll pay me 75% of the cost.
good deal. go find a truck that was totaled on the opposite side. and just to be mean file a claim in small claims court against the person at fault for the remaining 25%. but any way good luck with the repairs.
If its just body panel damage, you should be able to find parts on ebay, the web, junkyards and probably even Ford. A call to your local body shop might be useful too, they can either order the body parts for you with a small markup or maybe point you in the right direction.
If its structural, depending how bad it is you may or may not want to fix it. Frame twists are very difficult to repair in a DIY fashion, but its doable. Just not as accurate as a car-0-liner type system
But in a pinch, a big tree, a big winch, and some pulleys do the job.
I took some real good looks at my truck this afternoon and all that's wrong is the panels are messed up but they didn't bend the brackets on anything. like the bumper it's brackets and bolts are good same with the hood except the right side spring, and the panel brackets and frame are good. so i think i'm good to go.
Body panels can be cheap, but they need to be painted, etc. It will get expensive.
The main problem you are going to have is that you will get your truck back with a salvage title and it has to be rebuilt (inspected anyway) by a licensed rebuilder. The rules will vary by location.
You could pull the body and put an old truck body on your frame.
