I know what you're saying. I've been drag racing on and off since I was a senior in high school, and always built my own engines, with the exception of the car I have now. I've spent mucho money on Mallory and MSD ignition components in the past, but really more for reliability than anything else.
I have 59,000+ miles. Last week I started getting a serious miss at idle and when in overdrive. Internet research showed the problem was probably a bad coil. I hooked up my OBDII scanner and it showed some misfires on cylinder 6 and a bunch on cylinder 5 (the hardest one to get to). When I replaced #5 cylinder I noticed some antifreeze had leaked from the connection above it. I haven't cleaned the engine in probably a year.
Stan,
You mentioned an antifreeze leak on one of your coils. I bought a used 99 v10 which had a heater hose leaking anti-freeze on top of the back three plugs on the right side. I tightened the heater hose clamp and fixed the leak but months later developed a bad engine misfire on hard acceleration or pull. I found the electrical harness quick connect plug to coil on those three plugs badly corroded. I cleaned the corrosion in the connector and the misfire went away. Anti-freeze must be highly corrsive to those electrical connectors.
