Being that this is the V10 forum, you post is on topic. As far as I have looked I haven't found a replacement aftermarket performance C.O.P system.

Since they're individual units, unlike say a V-8 distributor, I wonder if an aftermarket set from a 5.4 or even a hotrod 4.6 mod motor would work ? What exactly does the COP do besides send a spark to the plug ? The actual timing seems like it's probably done somewhere else on the engine, so I would guess that all the COP unit does it send an electrical current at the right time to the plug. Does anyone know it our engines are sequentially fired or batch fired ? I sorta understand the difference I think. Doesn't batch fire send sparks to the plugs in every cylinder when they fire one cylinder ? Because (I'm assuming) the other 4 cylinders are somewhere in the stroke cycle that a spark doesn't affect them. Or am I missing something ?

Anyone compared the part numbers of a stock V10 coil pack with a stock 5.4 or 4.6 coil pack? If they are the same, then the aftermarket packs should work. I wasnt aware that the 5.4s and 4.6s had the COP setup.

part numbers..

I looked at a stock coil pack off a '01 Mustang Cobra 4.6, and here are the numbers on it:

first row: EED (or B, couldnt tell for sure) 3A
second row: 1L2U-12A366-AA
third row: 282053

I think these are right, I was looking at a picture of the top of the coil pack

Did a quick search at Autozone and they show coils for the V10.

Those are stock coils...

I think the question is, will any of the aftermarket performance coils match up and work on the V10. OR, maybe I just read the question wrong, and he is looking for stock coils that are cheaper than the OEM Ford coils, heck, I dont know!

What would you expect to gain with a "hotter" coil pack on an otherwise unmodified combustion process? Typically oem ignitions are very good for the application and with plenty of capacity for fairly extensive modifications.

Dont know. The OEM coils seem to work fine for me, and I've got several mods done. You know how it is though, performance nuts cant leave anything alone for long!!

That's the truth! I've been modifying fords since I was 16 and I have spent my share of money on parts! I'll say this, I've learned that ignitions really are'nt an area of power. Yes you need them to function properly but really, that's about it. Through many dyno sessions and years of racing the Power of an engine comes down to primarily three things... Cam, Heads, and intake. Reason I bring this up is that I don't want to see folks buy 10 coil packs thinking this will provide a solid hp gain. This is experience talking friends!!
