Yep, near CF. Dont want to get too specific on the internet, you never know who is reading this.
I've done a search on the internet for E85 info and stations. The nearest station, as I can tell, is like 50 miles away. Too far for me. So I start building.
How high of compression do you think I could run with ethanol?
What about just using the ethanol as an additive? There has been a thread up in the general section of using acetone as an additive, and the guy that has been doing the study is getting 10% more mpg from just 8oz. of acetone per full tank. Also I tried just plain old 99% isopropyl alcohol in my truck last fill up and the truck in running really smooth now.
as soon as that happens i will not be paying that for very long i can actually get someting done if motovated enough.
the last that i paid was 1.98 at sinclair for the "cheap" stuff, but considering that propane is 1.50 and all i need is the tank...

Rusty, I think the ethanol 85 would have no problem with 12 to 1. But that is just my opinion, I have yet to try it. But the methanol guys run 14 to 1 with out trouble. If you are only 50 miles away, how about getting a 55 gallon drum and make a once a week or every other week trip and try it out. If it works well for your setup, then have at building the still and you won't have to drive to Cedar Falls anymore. DF, @ his Dad's
I may do just that. I'd probably get three 5 gallon gas cans and drive up there though. I dont need 55 gallons of the stuff just to see if its going to work!
In reality, I'm still messing with my new fuel injection system. I just got the exhaust fixed up and spiffy, and the tuning is progressing. It seems to idle nice and smooth now. Just a little tuning left.
What will probably end up happening is I'll see if I can get away with running the ethanol in my current 360. With the tunability of the fuel injection, I should have no problem tuning for it. Then, down the road, if the ethanol works good with the fuel injection (read: doesn't eat anything like fuel lines) then I'll build the high compression FE. This is definately a long term plan.
Does anyone know of a head gasket thinner than .020"? Also, with such high compression, should I use any different type of head gasket? I've heard of o-ringing it, what does that mean?
