Is it the $1,500 option? For that money, I'd get a $1,000 laptop and a GPS kit. I saw a guy on a flight once who had one. He had the receiver antenna up against the window and a moving map display of the city below. The 15" screen showed exactly where we were during the flight. This gives the same functionality as the dealer option but you get a fully functional laptop computer with it.
Love mine, works great! Laptop would work great if you could ballance it on the steering wheel :-) Being intergraded into the audio system has many advantages. I wouldn't buy a car without one.
As someone said in the link that HomerWinzlow posted, theMagellan Roadmate 700 (with the hard drive) is awesome. I used the Hertz NeverLost system (the same system as the RoadMate) in a rental car for a month and I can't imagine any interface being easier. I was able to lookup businesses, restaurants, etc etc with just a few clicks (not having to select every letter in the name).
The only place I've found that has a working one on display is The Sharper Image.
If I had $1000 I would get one. Maybe I'll get one for Christmas.
