Question Sterring damper

I see it as an option when building a truck. What is it? Sort of like a rear stabalizer bar? 4x2 model

It's a big shock that mounts horizontally up front between the right wheel and the drag link(?). It's purpose is to dampen kickback to the steering wheel when the front wheels hit a rut or a pothole.

The factory unit is pretty cheesy and good aftermarket kits are available for $50-$100.

After market is definetly better. I know by saying this people are going to flame me as they did on the other thread on this subject of stearing dampers. They stearing damper takes out some of the shock into the wheel but it also preserves your stearing components like balljoints by reduceing the lateral shock put on them. Flame away!

No flaming here 03F350crew, I run an aftermarket one on my F350 and it does help reduce bump-steer and the tendency to follow ruts in the road. With bigger than stock tires a steering damper is a real help.

Sorry I don't have a pic of it, but it looks just like a shock absorber except it runs horizontally instead of vertically and connects from the axle housing to the main tierod on my truck. If you buy a kit, it should have installation instructions. Mine did. The installation is pretty simple.
