Just gave a guy a heartattack

I went to buy a couple of fish and some parts for my mom's pond. Bought 2 $20 fish and 1 $50 fish along with like $45 of parts. Total bill came out to $95.32. About 2 hours after i got home, i looked at the recipt to see how many bullfrog bucks i had. It was then i noticed i was only charged for 2 fish. I went back to the store to tell them the mistake and give them the right amount of money. The store owner asked how old i was and when i replyed 17, he just about had a heart attack. He told me that he knew adults that wouldnt have come back to tell the store that they didnt charge them $50. He said that i gave him hope for the future and that there were some honest teenagers outthere. Keep faith in us whippersnappers, there are some good ones.

Hmm, there's something fishy about your story. Way to go man, a little honesty will go a long way. Now the store owner can tell people the story about the one that almost got away.

Puns? What puns? No, seriously, that's cool man. Makes me stop and think twice about whether I would do this or not.

That's great, glad you went back. Honesty is still alive and well in this country it's just that no one sees or hears it. Thanks, for adding to the "good deeds" column.

So did the guy actually take the money? I'd would think they would just give it to you anyways, just to show their appreciation???!?!

Maybe given him a little of it back. It would have shown appreciation and not let then lose $50. That’s a lot to some people. I gave back quit a bit of money when I worked at DQ from people. $1 bills would stick together. I had a fairly well off guy, in his 60s' or maybe 70's that still worked. He had a $20 stick to another one; I didn’t hesitate to give it back. He didn’t even say thank you, but that didn’t really matter. He was always a really nice guy, never complained or griped. I can honestly say I would have given the $50 back. I may not have much in life but I do have a clear conscious.

I found a cash box from a local restaurant lying on the side of the road full of cash and checks to the tune of a couple of grand a few years back. Because of the checks, I was able to tell who the $$ belonged to and took it to the restaurant and returned it. So happened that the old man that owned the place had set the box on his bumper and forgot about it and drove away. Anyway, they thank me and tell me they weren't sure how they were going to open up that day, because the cash was that days 'operating' money. Since I was there, I went ahead and sat down and ate lunch. They didn't even offer a free refill on my drink, much less anything else. I didn't mind so much, but it sure seems like that kind of honesty ought to be appreciated. It wasn't easy passing up that kind of cash.

I tell my boys that the only reward for honesty is being able to sleep at night. But, that is priceless.

Sure, but my point is that you'd think people would actually be grateful for that kind of honesty. Especially when it's to the tune of a couple of grand. I mean really, what are the odds that you lose that kind of money- on the side of the road no less- and someone returns it?? The checks maybe, but cash? Not very likely.
