low compression

Hello I have a 1988 351 in my motorhome. the compression is getting a bit low because of valves. does anyone know of a oil additive that might help this problem until I save enough money to fix it right?

Thanks

compression

panel, what makes you think it is the valves that are the cause of the problem ? Low compression on engines with alotof wear is usually the rings, from my experience. Try some 20-50 oil and see if it improves any. DF, @ his dad's house

low compression

Thanks for your reply My mechanic told me the no6 valves are low compression. I'm just hoping there is some kind of additive, but I will try your suggestion.
Thanks

Carbon shouldn't be a problem on valves if the engine is running correctly and you drive it properly. Properly means trips that allow the engine to heat up. The only driving pattern that encourages carbon build up is repeated short trips while never driving the engine enough to come up to full operating temperature.

A carboned valve is going to become a burned valve very quickly.

Your mechanic sounds like he doesn't know much. Or, he wants to do you a valve job.

How do you know the compression is low?
