I'm wondering what price I'm looking at if I were to stick in a 302 in a 87' Ranger that has a preexisting 2.9L V6 in it. I know about the conversions and such, I'm just looking for a price.

I have done something similar, get a price for the conversion mounts, and I believe the rangers need the mounts welded, used too maybe some can be bolted in now a days, take everything into consideration you can think of, then add 25-50% of whatever number you come up with, then you will be close. 
Seems it never fails something needs replaceing and gaskets, bolts, hoses, and many little things will add up quick. Shipping will get ya and tax will throw the budget off. Hard to pinpoint a price, if you go used and get lucky then it will cost a whole lot more than if you get everything new. Prices vary from junkyard to junkyard and state to state. Good luck
