Anyone replace all of their mounts? I'm looking to replace mine, as the truck creaks front to back. Was wondering what I'm looking at price-wise.
Thanks.
I have had just the bad ones replaced from ford...
The 4 parts needed upper body mount, lower body mount, new bolt and most important the SHIM. Combined parts will cost you about $92. Per location.
First locations that fail:
drivers side ( most common) or passenger side location #2. these are both located at your feet while in driver or passenger seat.
I have only done these locations and now have no noises.
Even if this job is done at the dealer, make sure they use the shim!!
Exv10, I did that twice, I also used the grinding method they both worked for a very short time. Got about 1 month noise free with grease and about 2 months with the grinding method.
The reason why doing it right is simple.
1)On the older excursion there was no shim. After ford figured out the problem the solution became a $4 part.
2)The Rubber looses it's integrity mainly due to the weight of our cabs.
3)The ford shop manual states on re-install of body mounts do not use lube.
4) torque to 87lbs.
I wasted too much time on this, happy it's all behind me now

Funny how some are affected and some aren't. My 2000 is perfectly quiet.

Like everything else read here, not every transmission goes bad, not every windshield leaks so forth and so on. You get it, see from your signature you are a former mechanic.
yeah i know, my balljoints were replaced about 4k miles ago so i hope its not that. The end links have been replaced so maybe that rules that out too. I would love find out what the culprit is............

I know every dealership is different, but what can I expect to pay for the install?

To do all of them, dealer removes the cab from the frame, a good super duty tech can do this in just over 2 hours. About 2 hours to put in new mounts and another 2 hours or so to put cab back on. At minimum $800 labor.
The biggest problem the mounts are not sold as a kit, so that's about $1,000 in parts. I have not found aftermarket mounts for the Ex.
In my case just needing 2, $150 labor per side plus the parts.
FYI... The dealer told me it could not be done with at least loosening all mounts on same side. This is not true, by taking out bolt and raising the body at that location (just enough to get the mount out) this will not hurt your truck. So if you go this route you may need to talk them into it.

Sounds about right. I was quoted around $1600. Had to bend over and breath into a paper bag for a bit. I'll probably just do 2 mounts a month to make the hit to the wallet a little easier. I don't understand why there aren't aftermarket parts for this considering it's such a problem. (My dealership quit selling OEM key fobs because they were so expensive!)
Mines doesnt creak it makes a pop sound when i go over certain bumps and especially on turns... I wanna fix it. But I dont know where to start...
Laki
The popping sounds are the front body mounts. Not all creak... mine snap and pop occasionally. When it becomes more than occasional, I'll change them out.
