hey everyone,
I have a 03 PSD 7.3 4x4 supercab xlt and want to add some parts to give it more power/ improve fuel economy if possible, I was just wondering what is the best air intake to get? , also the best downpipe to be uses with a 4-5inch exhaust?. also what chip or tuner is best? ( i tow heavy equipment almost every day all day long) thanks for any help

1. Get gauges first
2. Tymar or AIS air intake
3. 4" exhaust is enough unless you are going to exceed 450HP or like the look of 5". Check out MotorHaven for exhaust kits.
4. Check out MotorHaven for chips/tuners.

I second that..... that's probably the most straight forward answer you can get. I see you have an 03', same as me. Is your truck still under warranty(you say you tow everyday so I don't know how many miles you have)? If so, I'd say do the AIS because it will not void your warranty as the Tymar or others would. And also if it's still under warranty, I'd do a tuner because you can remove that program and return it to stock settings should your truck need to go in for service ( a tuner or chip would void your warranty if found by Ford ), but if you remove the tuner's settings and change back to stock prior to taking your truck to the dealership you should be ok..... even though it may be unethical in extreme instances. But that's your call. I say if it's under warranty.... it's under warranty. Good luck!

P.S.
If you're going to have the truck for the next couple of years I'd say go with stainless steel exhaust. I've heard very good things about the Hog Performance exhaust. You can get it from Motorhaven for $585. Good buy for T-304!

I don't have experience with the bypass yet. So I can't answer that. Yeah, you can do it in stages. It will gradually start to run more efficient! Because I wasn't towing anything big I decided to do the intake before gauges. But since you tow a lot, gauges would be the safest route to go. An intake is a great place to start your mods, but exhaust will give you the best relief in relation to your exhaust temps. Very important to do when towing weight.

Yes, you can certainly do it in stages, but I wouldn't recommend chipping until you have items 1-3 in the list. I have looked into oil bypass systems myself, but don't believe in extended drain intervals with a diesel. The bypass filters won't remove some contaminents such as diesel that makes its way into the oil. If you're interested in engine longevity you might also consider adding a coolant filter.

Check out MotorHaven. I know they sell them for a fair price.
