Where is the search feature for the forums? Anyway, I have never visited a fuel station with them advertising No. 2 fuel. There is a Chevron station near my house with No. 2 diesel fuel and it is about .10 cheaper than most. Is this fuel regular road diesel?
#2 diesel is what you are supposed to run in your truck. #1 diesel is basically like kerosene. The off-road diesel, which you are not allowed to run in your truck, is dyed red and is, in some states, allowed to have a higher sulphur content.
So yes, run #2, that's what you're supposed to run.
No. 2 is what most all fuel stations should have, it's usually a given that that's the kind of fuel being used. No. 1 diesel is commonly blended with No. 2 during winter months (winter blend) to improve the cloud and pour point of the No. 2 since No. 1 diesel will not gel as soon at lower temperatures. But No. 1 also has lower BTU/gal than No. 2 and you'll notice a loss in your fuel economy because of it.
By 2006, the EPA is requiring that the sulfur levels in diesel be reduced from 500 ppm to 15 ppm, a 97% reduction. This is good for the environment, but not the engines since the lower the sulfur level, the lower the lubricity.
Thanks for the explanation guys! I'll give that Chevron station a try. While regular gas around here is running at $1.87 a gallon, it just feels good to put in that $1.59 diesel! Take care.
Heck
#2 over here is at 139.9 in my area, going up daily. Buddy of mine just dropped a 50 gal in his bed (dodge) to fill with offroad. I gave him a warning cause around here your pretty safe but if you leave to diff co. they may dip your tanks..Then how much did you save? my .002
Yea, Ive noticed that Diesel is now more expensive than Premium Wasnt like that 4 weeks ago. I wish there was a way we could make a stand on these gas prices. Its gotten way out of hand.
According to a pal who owns a gas station here, part of the blame goes to Shell for shutting down a diesel refinerery in Bakersfield as it was to costly to come into compliance. Now with the leak in Cordelia i`d say pull up yer bootstraps
Hi Guy's
Here in the middle of Oklahoma I find that buying at the truck stops off the interstate is the best, most ecomonical place to buy fuel. I paid $1.50 for Diesel just the other day at the local Flying J. My truck runs great on this diesel and I've never had a problem with water. This place sells more diesel than gas I think. I haven't figured out who is making all the money on these high fuel prices but it isn't me. Paul
here diesel is 1.75 been there since christmass reg gas is 2.28. ouch is all i have to say. also i have fuel deliverd to my farm the only diffrence between on road and off road is the color. in the summer its no.2 no 1 is made by mixing kersone with no. 2 to keep it from gelling. no 1 doesnt run nearly as good or make nearly as much power. i generate all my own electrcity its cheaper that way and in the winter i can use almsot ten gallons more a day in the generators. just casue of haveing to use no 1 so what i did is put my fuel tanks in the same room as the engines engine heats them and i can run no2 all year long. rite no my offraod fuel costs me 1.24 a gallon and on road 1.70 delevered to the farm.
