I am considering installing a bypass oil filter on my '95 F-250 PSD.
Due to the high mileage, 158000, I will probably stick to the Rotella rather than trying a synthetic. But I would like to extend the oil change intervals.
From what I see, reasonable intervals with the bypass are 10000 mi, changing the filter and topping off at 5000.
There are numerous brands out there. Some of the more expensive have heating elements. Some use paper towels for media and others use screw-on filters.
I am interested in hearing all opinions, recommendations, experiences, etc.
Performance is #1, followed closely by convenience.
However, some express concern about changing to any synthetic in a high mileage vehicle. I don't want to risk problems when I don't have any now. It's not out of the question but I would have to feel more reassured thatn I do now.
