I purchased my 1998 Windstar in February, and since then have had three occaisions where the "service engine soon" light fuse was blown. I have taken it back to the dealership, where they changed the fuse twice but it has since blown again. The service manager tells me that it may be a wiring problem, and they will have to go under the seats and carpeting to replace the wires. Is this problem a real danger if I decide to wait to have it fixed? I have already put almost $300 into the car for this problem, and I am not financially ready to drop any more at this time. Am I being taken for a ride, or is this problem common in the Windstar?
I dont think its common at all to be a wiring issue. Dont see many Windstars for that at my dealership anyway. There was one I had about 6 months ago that blew fuses and it turned out to have a rubbed thru spot on the wiring harness that runs above the AC fitting at the fire wall. The loom was resting on the redundant clip and the clip rubbed through the wire and was intermittently shorting the fuse. You may want to give that a look.
