Pad Reccomendations...?

Hello all,

It's that time again. I'm looking for brake pad brand reccomendations. I had used EBC pads last time around and the color of the front wheels now matches my tires. The rear wheels don't have this problem, so I'm a little baffled. At any rate, have any of you had great success with a particular brand of pads that has low brake dust? Just to you know, I replaced the stock rotors last time with Brembo replacement rotors, same size as stock etc. Thanks in advance for your help.

FWIW, I've got Wagner Thermoquiets on the front and dust is about 1/2 the stock level. Feel is good. They run around $65 for the set.

I also went ceramic last month and just to see how much dust I would get, I didn't wash the Expedition for two weeks. You could hardly tell that there was any dust at all . Also they are very quiet and smooth. Now I need to do the back brakes this next weekend.

Got my pads at Napa for $91.00 a set

I will be putting new pads on my 2001 Exp this week, rotors still in good shape.

For new pads, in order of importance, I am looking for:

1). Stopping power, the stock popsickle sticks (a.k.a. Ford pads) don't work worth a damn.

2.) Low noise

3.) low dust

I am thinking of Wagner Thermoquiets or the Raybestos ceramics. What do you guys recommend for the best stopping power??

Thumbs up Brake Pads

Hey deanjet!

For the stopping power and low brake dust you cannot go wrong with Raybestos ceramics. I had ceramics on my 2001 expy and they were great and I am going to replace the fronts on my 2004 expy this month and I am going with Raybestos ceramics.

I have been told Raybestos does not yet make a ceramic pad for the 03/04 Expeditions. Was forced to pay Fords price for their new pads. Big bucks, BUT NO DUST.

Question Pads

Randy,

Thanks for the info. I am going to check up and see if they are planning to make the pads for the 03/04 expys. What was the price from the dealer?

I have heard that ceramics are hard on rotors, and you'll run into rotor problems. Is this true?

Hogwash-I've gone through 3 sets on two vehicles and rotors were fine. Never believe the mailman!

You should have no concern about ceramic pads, personally think they are the best. Whoever told you about them being hard on rotors might have inhaled to much brake dust caused by semi-metallic pads.

Well that's good to hear. I will keep that in mind when I go for a replacement. I am tired of all that brake dust.

The price most people are getting from dealers is a whoppin $230.00 plus tax for both front and rears. I did not put the rears on, they do not throw out the dust.. I only have two dealers to choose from where I live, one fortunately gave me a discount and they cost $180.00 plus tax. They are real proud of these new pads .
