mrxlh, I too keep a log on every vehicle I have, taught my wife to do it 37 years ago on her cars so I could keep track of all servicing. With my '96 F-150 I did a tranny service every year before towing my race trailer to Bonneville. 7000# and never had a problem. 8 years 8 tranny services(self). I never lost the turbo 400's in any of my GM trucks because of doing it with them. I'm hoping this new PSD 6.0 will go 2 years between services because it will not work as hard as the 351 did. The last trans I lost was a '65 powerglide in a Chevelle in '68. Oil and filters are "cheap" when compared to repairs. Because of what's said here you can bet I'll know exactly what they will be putting in. This is the best info/site there is. Thanks All
it has a stock 5.0 for the majority of the aod failures, but once i put the art carr aod in, i started spraying a 150 shot, and drag raced it ALOT. over 80 bottles of nitrous before the engine was too tired to risk it.
with the c-4, it got a 347, ported trick flow heads, probe 10:1 pistons, h beam rods...and a custom ground roller, as well as 42lb/hr injectors, a ported tfs intake, a stand alone fuel management system....and 14lbs of bewst from a vortech s-trim.
the aod built by carr was SUPPOSED to be good to ~600hp....which is close to what the car was pushing, more likely about 650 at the flywheel, based on the rwhp of 519 thru an automatic.
Just off the top of my head, I don't suppose you drove that thing sedately. Didn't you mod the tranny too. I wouldn't blame the tranny based on the above.
of course, i would not expect a stock aod to last... but no matter what i were to do, it would have failed. it is just a pos imho...... there is a reason ford quit building the FMX! now, why did they bring it back with the aod???

not one of their best ideas.

Now how do you explain that. I had hundreds of thousands of miles on an AOD. I buried that thing in the mud many times. Pulled a boat with it. I used it to pull railroad ties until it stretched the chain. The original tranny is still running with one of my son's friends who uses it offroad hunting etc. The tranny shop told me it was the last of the good transmissions until Ford came out with this Torqueshift. But that's just my experience.
It think this is typical of opinions posted here. Some have bad experiences and say, "it is just a pos imho...... ". I had outstanding performance imho. Not flaming jost making an observation.
i also do not like the c6, as i wasted three of them in other vehicles, and recently smoked the one in my 78 f250, which makes less power i bet than a new civic!
it's all about experiences, my brother had three aode's go out in his 94, and 95 stangs collectivly, and it is the same trans.....my wife's 01 mustang gt ate it's first 4r70w at 14k, and the second at 42k......she put all but about 2000 miles on it. that if you did not know, is just an aod with electronic shifting, and some durability mods, as well as a lower first and second gear.
i maintain my vehicles very well btw, but i do drive them all like they are stolen, and i do it every time i drive.....
as i said, i have already had probs with my TQSHFT, ans i will wager by 50k, ill have another
bummer, cuz i love this truck more than all my stangs combined!!! (there have been 14...)
