How can you really plan ahead, look how much our world has changed in the last 10, 20, 50, or even 100 years. I myself, just go with the flow and make sure I have enough money for the future.

Ditto this! (as much as possible...to have enough money). No one knows what will qualify as "enough" money, but I suppose just do the best we can without regrets and the rest will take care of itself.
This is a great question. Now entering midlife crisis (51 and I'm going to buy a Mustang if I can get my fat %^ into it). I have run the retirement programs on a couple of investment sites. (Vanguard and other fine brands have them) The little woman and I have been saving for years and it still ain't enough. The problem ain't if you drop over--heck well just kick dirt over you or let the dogs at you. It's if you are still alive but all floppy, and need someone to help you with the dainty and delicate needs of --well, just imagine not being able to reach the roll of TP. Anyway, health care costs are a train wreck in motion, so maybe something dramatic will help with that. Over and above though is stuff like in-home care. You can buy insurance for that, and the earlier you buy it, the cheaper it is.
And then there is the statistic of how much most folks have saved up---something like half have nothing, and the rest average $30,000. Hhhmmm.
Anyway, long winded here, all I'm trying to say is if you can, save every red cent you can because you're gonna need it, and you can't have any of mine.
