ok i'm perplexed here...Ford said they were gonna release a new V-6 for the new Body style F-150's for the '05 Model year...Now I have looked into Motor-Trend/Truck-Trend Magazine and Also "Yahoo!" Autos. They both say the '05 F-150 will have a 4.2L V-6 rated for 202hp....Sounds like the exact same freakin crummy engine they had before...what the heck is goin on? I test drove a 4.6L and it seemed to Labor just to pull into an interesection without getting creamed...my Dad's FX4 with 5.4 is finally showing decent power after 11,000 Miles...But how do they expect this same super ineficient runt to power these new heavier trucks?
Chipper, i've checked all the vacuum lines. I've spent hours and hours and six pack after six pack starring at every inch of my motor, up, over, under, side, everywhere tugging and pulling on all the vaccum lines and it's all perfect.
One question arose though. I noticed that the Evap canister is at the rear of the truck under the bed. I've probably had that thing submerged in water several dozen times. If it filled with water or has water in it, can that cause the pinging.
Other than that problem, Fordtastic, I have no power complaints with my truck for having a V6. And your right, the 4.6 has only a few more ponies than the 4.2, not worth the extra money.
i have a 4.2 and mine is doing something similar to his but mine is a five speed i have a cone wich is p1451 and when you run thru the gears the truck runs great and as soon as you let off and let it coast and get back on to it it sputters and carryies on any suggestions woulod be most app
Guys, I found your board by searching for a fix for my car.
my 4.2L 98 F150 4x2 keeps hesitating when accellerating and almost stalls at a stand still. Check engine light came on, it registers as "Right and Left" bank running lean. I have replaced the 02 sensors twice no luck, new plugs and wires no luck, k&n air filter installed no luck, new fuel filter no luck... Please advise..
Thanks,
Jeff
i had the same problem, there's a little vacum line at front of engine(L shaped if i remember right) that went into manifold. it had worn and had a hole in it. replaced it and light never came back on. btw, i replaced everything you have. drove me crazy
