Check the 90 degree elbow made of rubber behind the upperintake on the left side, mine melted. Its about the size of a half dollar and costs about $6.00 from ford. You can't see it, reach your hand behind the upper intake and feel around while the truck is on... if you hit it, it will hiss... because air will leak out. Replace that elbow! If you don't your truck will gradually run lean and ping.
So you replaced that part and is your truck running better because I have the same problem with mine as you did yours and I have replaced over $600 worth of stuff and still haven't gotten it fixed.
I know Garrett, i've just been so busy with the house that I haven't been doing anything except settling in. Now that I'm all settled, i'm back to normal.
Scrimpy, who are you talking too?
I'm going to check this "supposed elbow thing-a-ma-jig" out as well.
I was asking mjeff cause he is the one that started this thread and then he comes off this elbow thing and was wondering if that fixed the problem or not. I have tried feeling around for this elbow thing I can't seem to find what he is talking about.
I'm not sure about this whole elbow thing. Perhaps he struck a pedestrian and snapped his arm off and his elbow got caught between the engine and firewall
I had another ? if you can't see it then how in the heck are you supposed to replace it. It would really help if I knew what this elbow thing is called because in the chilton book it doesn't have a elbow thing. I might be able to find it if I know what it is called. Could it be called the vwv hose?
TOM you're back! I thought I would never see you around here again!!! I hope your here as an "everydayer" like you used to be.. Why aren't you on MSN messenger anymore? did you get a new address or somethin??
What's the latest stat? Are you still having problems? If you really can't figure out what it is and you ARE throwing codes, I'd take it to a dealer. My truck detonates (pings) at high rpms with wide open throttle. No codes thrown. I've checked every thing there is to check and even have a 6 page thread on this site from a few months back. Other than that, the truck runs fine. I still never did find out what the problem is and it still exists. So I just don't full throttle it and if I hear it ping, I let off the gas. Sooner or later, the problem is bound to rear its ugly head.
Yesterday, I did notice that my rear exhaust manifold bold had broken off and I believe there is an exhaust leak between the motor and the header. I'm not sure if escaping gas at high rpms can cause a lean running condition but I just brought it into the dealer so they can remove the broken off bolt inside the motor and thread in a new one. Who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and that will fix my problem. Got my fingers crossed
