4.2L V6 - Plugs, fuel filter and oil weight recommendation
Hey guys. This is my first post here so pardon mylack of knowledge. I've tried searching for the "best" plugs and filter only to find out it was Motorcraft (obviously) but with no specific part number. Unfortunately, I'm not having much luck with their website as well. Could you guys tell me the part number for the fuel filter, spark plugs and what weight of oil you recommend? By the way, it's a 1999 F-150 XLT V6. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to FTE and the 4.2 / 3.8 forum.
Yes, Advance Auto has the Motorcraft plugs (repalced mine last week) and the fuel filter.
As far as oil, I generally run Havoline or Pennzoil 5W20 (or any other that happens to be on sale at Advance Auto or Wally World). I use the Motorcraft filter, or a Purolator. 5000 miles intervals.
Currently at 163,000 miles and it all seems to be working well for me.
Hope the info helps.

That is not true.Honeywell owns Allied Industries and FRAM,which in turn makes Autolite plugs and Motorcraft plugs.Autolite and Motorcraft might look similar but Motorcraft plugs are made to Ford specifications, which Autolite are made to a whole different specification! How do I know this? I was curious and contacted Autolite and they provided me with this information.

I looked all over in my area for the Motocraft copper plugs for my '97 and could not find them. Advance Auto counter man told me the Autolight plugs are the same as Motocraft so I bought them. They are NOT the same. I can feel the loss of power with my new plugs. One of the upcoming warm summer days, I guess I will look longer for the Motocraft plugs and switch them out.

Advance Auto had the Platinum fine wire plugs (Motorcraft). I replaced mine a few weeks ago. They were about $2 each. Way cheaper than they used to be.
I don't recall knowing about a Motorcraft copper plug for the 4.2. I guess there is one, I just never remember hearing abou it.
I did run Autolite copper plugs in my 2000 for a good long time and could tell zero difference in performance or gas mileage.
The reason for the change to Platinum is for longer change intervals.
I have never known the copper plugs to function poorly.

In our fleet of 65 f-150's with the 4.2 we run Amsoil 5w30, and Amsoil filter at a change interval of 25,000 mi. I use wix fuel filters, and autolite double platinum plugs. I don't recomend the 25,000 mi. interval to anyone else because we are testing for Amsoil and take an oil sample once a month for them to look for oil break down, ware metals and a handful of other things. With that said I am happy with all of the above.
