I have some questions about a flowmaster exhaust system for my 2001 F150 Supercrew with 4.6L V8. When I search the flowmaster website for an exhaust system fitting my truck the hit for 2/4 wheel drive I see a nice system for $522.
Here's my questions:
Q1: The system comes with a 50 series muffler. I'm happy to have more growl if that gives better performance, especially on mountains at high altitude. Should I go with the 40 series or is the 50 adequate for the driving I just described?
Q2: I assume a muffler shop will need to install the system since I don't have a welder. What's a fair price to be charged for this?
Q3: Anybody have good luck with muffler shop chains or should I stick official flowmaster dealers?
Q4: Is $522 a good price for this system or can it be picked up cheaper elsewhere?
That sounds like its on the high side if its aluminized tubing, if its stainless steel then it sounds fair. Don't know if you need to weld, some kits come with clamps (I would weld it) You will find more answers down at the exhaust forum, check it out.
I just had a cat back dual exhaust installed about three weeks ago. I have a '03 Supercrew, and the kit I used from flowmaster was # 17222. The price was $324 including shipping from Summit Mail Order. They charge $10 shipping for oversize items. I shopped around but ended up going to my favorite local Mieneke muffler shop to have it installed, at a cost of $100. The 50 series muffler is noticable on takeoff, but I'm still thinking of going to either the original 40 series or delta 40 series to make it sound a little louder. Right now it sounds like a stock 5.0 Mustang.
By the way, the muffler shop used the clamps that came with the kit. They said it was better to clamp it than to weld it. I'm glad they clamped it, cause it'll be a lot easier for me to swap in the 40 series muffler myself.
