I do track mileage per my odometer (I said I use my PDA to track expenses). I ran down to Alabama yesterday with it up, no change. Maybe it is just summer fuel. I have to go back to west TN Wendsday so I will be putting on around 1100 miles this week, I will get a better feel then.

OUCH

You just motivated me to walk outside the office and lock my tailgate. I needed a break, anyway.

I pray the theives turn to Exodus 20:15: "Thou shalt not steal" (or to any other passage for that matter).

Not to drag out this thread for my own sympathy, by the time the weekend ended I replaced the alternator, one battery, CMP, and fuel filter. If that was not bad enough they took everything from the tail gate and tow hooks, to the antenna! With the estimates coming it I'm out around $5k!!! and the insurance company is already whining (not that I blame them). Learned a couple of things from this the hard way, invest in a good alarm, don't go cheap and not tow it home, and do your maintainence. On the upside, was pulling horse and trailer when I broke down, there are still good people out there that will for no reason at all pull over, hook you up, and make sure the truly important things are taken care of. Funny thing, they were all driving Dodges?

I have tried dropping the tailgate also to see if there was any difference in fuel mileage. None!!! Now there was a noticeable diff in my 96 F150 gasser. 2 more mpg. There was a big diff in heavy rain on the interstate at 75/80 mph. Tailgate up, did not have to slow down. Tailgate down, started to hydro-plain. F150 is a whole lot lighter than my F350 drw.

Bluesbandit,

Sorry to hear about your run of luck lately man, but the reason dodge guys stop for you is because they are returning the favor. They have all been there many times!!!

Fire Rooster,

Good point, I know what you mean, just trying to add some humor to the whole situation. Thanks for the laugh.

Having just replacing my own tailgate I know it can be a pain in the butt matching colors and such. A friend suggested I put a hose clamp around the slotted side of the hinge installed from below it just might be enough of a slow down to get them to pass by. Anyway best of luck.
