I bought a Sony Mavica 1000, about 3 years ago - uses 3.5" cd's - 2.1 megapixel - 10x optical zoom - GREAT camera! Also bought a pocket Kodak (also 2 megapixel) last year for its size - it's much more limited feature-wise (no optical zoom), but it's REALLY handy for traveling - to get that unexpected shot of a nice rainbow or whatever.
I have had a Sony Mavica for almost 6 years. It has been great. It has survived numerous job sites, kids, water, employees you name it. It is still going strong and I still use it. I just got the new Kodak DX6490 and it is GREAT. I got it primarily for the 10x optical zoom and the German Optics. But there are a whole host of features that make it great. You can be completely automatic or completely manual and anywhere in between. It allows for complete control of almost all aspects of photography. It also is designed around the old standards used in regular film cameras so if you are familiar and conformable with those this camera will be easy to get use to. I also have a Canon A-1 (had it since 1980 or so) that I still use when I need to have "legal" photos as most digital ones will not stand up in court.
The question is not as simple as it sounds....I have a digital camcorder that has the capability of taking still pictures, but I do not have a digital camera. So I guess the answer would be....no
